Off Season Moves For LeBron & The Cavs

The NBA Finals are over, but that doesn’t mean the Cavs and LeBron James are not in the news. LeBron is expected to once again work out a one-year contract with a player option for the 2016-17 season. Doing so would allow him to again hold the leverage next summer and sign a new deal after the league’s salary cap and maximum salaries rise due to the NBA’s massive new TV contract. He’s expected to wait until the Cavaliers resolve situations with Kevin Love, Tristan Thompson, Brendan Haywood’s non-guaranteed contract and J.R. Smith before making his new deal official.

Imagine

Imagine if LeBron came home to Cleveland.

Imagine if the team struggle early but finished the regular season strong.

Imagine if their big man went down, but they still found a way to power through the Eastern Conference.

Imagine if they faced the top seed in the Finals.

Imagine if they pushed Game 1 to overtime but lost another star to injury.

Imagine if everyone counted them out.

Imagine if they shocked the world and took the next two games.

Imagine if fatigue caught up with them, and the lost Games 4 and 5.

Imagine if they defied odds, logic and the basketball gods to come back and win the series in 7.

Except this isn’t Hollywood. It’s Cleveland.

Nothing is given. Everything is earned.

Just do it.

Nothing Is Given

‘Not Enough Grit’ ~ The Plain Dealer

I try to keep things very positive here on TCB. We all know that our beloved Cleveland Cavaliers came up short last night in the NBA Finals. They battled to the very end. Playing essentially with only 7 guys the Cavs made a run that has galvanized the city and has us excited for the future.

The Plain Dealer on its front cover chose to tell a different story.

Not Enough Grit - Plain Dealer

I won’t go into this a whole lot, but this is really upsetting to me. They had a chance to embrace the city and this team and they chose to go this route. All I’ll say is this… Does it surprise anyone that no one subscribes any more?

LeBron Leaving It On The Court

When I started That’s Cleveland Baby I had no intent of turing this into a sports-centric blog. That said, Cleveland revolves around its sports teams so when they’re in the news I feel compelled to cover it.

After the worst start in his career, LeBron James recorded a triple-double with 37 points, 18 rebounds and 13 assists lifting the Cavs to a 3-0 lead in the Eastern Conference Finals over the Atlanta Hawks.

Two Down, Two To Go

The Cavs took game 2 in the East Conference Finals last night without Kyrie Irving. The more banged up the Cavs are, the better they play. LeBron James was 1 rebound shy of a triple double  and Tristan Thompson had seven points and 16 boards.

LeBron James Hits ‘The Shot’

LeBron James did it. With time expiring, he drained a shot from the corner to give the CAVS the win in game 4 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals. Will that play become know as “The Shot” and finally overshadown Michael Jordan’s shot over Craig Ehlo?  Time will tell.

Our Home Since 1866. Our Pride Forever.

A few years ago, when you drove into downtown and would be greeted with a Cleveland icon… LeBron James.  Back in those days LeBron’s banner with his arms outstretched had simply one word on it… “Witness“.  These days as you make your way downtown you’re still greeted with an icon but it’s no longer Mr. James.  These days the icon is Cleveland herself.

The Sherwin-Williams Banner

The “Witness” banner has been replaced with one sponsored by home town Sherwin-Williams that has a picture of Cleveland with seven words: “Our Home Since 1866.  Our Pride Forever
