I grew up here and after going away for college and spending nearly a decade in Washington D.C., the wife and I came back to C-Town. I don’t care how much crap we take in the national media, Cleveland is the greatest town in the world. This is my little spot on the web to share the beauty that is Cleveland, Ohio.

When I came up with the idea for That’s Cleveland Baby I always intended it to be pictures & stories from not JUST downtown Cleveland, but also it surrounding areas.  That said, when it came time to choose a domain name for the site, www.thatsnortheastohiobaby.com or www.thatsclevelandandthesurroundingareasbaby.com didn’t quite have the ring to them that I was going for 🙂

In any case this is a pic that I snapped in Twinsburg (an eastern suburb of Cleveland if you’re not familiar).

If there is one building that’s iconic to Cleveland, it’s the Terminal Tower.  One of the thing that I LOVE about the Tower is when it’s lit up in the Cleveland night.  Throughout the year how it’s lit changes based on the time of year, activities around town, etc.  This particular image was snapped during the holidays this past year when the Tower was decked out in traditional Christmas colors.  Love it!

Thank You Cleveland Browns Fans

If there is one thing that Cleveland is synonymous with its the Cleveland Browns.  No matter how good (not too often in recent years) or bad (all too often in recent years) our Browns are, the fans come to each and every game in droves.  We support our team through think and thin.  Through good and bad draft picks, through endless quarterback controversies and coaching changes the fans continue to file into Cleveland Browns Stadium.

This pic was snapped on the way out of this past season’s home opener.  This sign always makes me smile as I love it when an organization recognizes it’s fans.  It’s a small token, but for THIS fan, it goes a long way.

Awesome Intersections – East 9th & Prospect

There are a couple of intersections around town that simply scream “CLEVELAND!!!”.  For me this one is right up there.  When I arrive at the corner of East 9th and Prospect it just feels like home.  Look north and you can see the Medical Mutual building, the Key Bank building and the lake looming in the distance.  Looks south and you can see Progressive Field.  This particular photo looks to the east and shows the Terminal Tower which is in my opinion THE icon of the Cleveland skyline.

Carlos Baerga to Enter Indians Hall of Fame

It was announced yesterday that Carlos Baerga and John Hart will be inducted this summer into the Indians Hall of Fame.  Hart was the architect and Baerga was a piece of one of the greatest teams that has ever stepped onto the baseball field… in Cleveland or otherwise.  I know that I’m biased, but I’ve often said that World Series title or not, I believe the 1995 Cleveland Indians was the best team in the history of baseball.  Period.

If you’ve ever heard Carlos give an interview, you know that, “Cargo Bagerga lubs Cleland.”   And Cargo… I’m happy that you’ve made it to the HOF.  You’ve earned it.

Welcome To Cleveland

One of the things that I love about Cleveland is that we KNOW we’re Cleveland.  Let me explain.  In many cities around the country, if there isn’t a recognizable landmark you’d never know what city you were in.  However, in Cleveland, we remind you OFTEN just where you are.  Take this sign from the downtown area… we shout out it out loud… WELCOME TO OUR TOWN!

And I have to tell you… it’s a very comforting feeling to be welcomed every time I enter the city.  It is a nice reminder that I’m home.

As previously stated, the weather in Cleveland can be a bit um… sporadic at best. Today is one of those days when we’re on the “good lord it’s crappy out” side of the spectrum.  The morning drive was super difficult as we got hit with some lake effect snow and wind which produced this nice little white out.

It’s not often that I find myself walking the streets of downtown Cleveland by myself on a weekend evening, but that’s exactly the situation I found myself in recently.  I had attended the Winking Lizard World Tour Finisher’s Party and I was making my way over the Horseshoe Casino for some late night gambling when I walked by the Federal Reserve Bank.  Super cool!
